Giorgia Meloni Criticizes Labor Union Chief for ‘Courtesan of Trump’ Remark

Giorgia Meloni has publicly denounced the chief of the major Italian trade union after he labeled her as the “courtesan” of former US President Donald Trump.

Context of the Disputed Comments

CGIL leader Maurizio Landini, the head of the CGIL union, made the statement in a televised interview on Tuesday. This came just after world leaders, including Meloni, convened for a Middle East peace summit held in Egypt.

The union leader accused the Prime Minister of “failing to act” to promote peace in Gaza, saying her involvement was restricted to “playing Trump’s courtesan”. Thankfully, Italian people took to the street to defend the prestige and integrity of the nation,” he stated.

Meloni’s Response

Via an online post on Thursday, the Prime Minister declared that the union chief was obviously obscured by increasing animosity (which is understandable)”. She proceeded to share a explanation of the expression “courtesan”.

“I think it is widely understood the primary definition associated with this term, but, to assist people who don’t know, I have posted the top definition obtained from a quick internet search,” Meloni said, including a screenshot that read: “Promiscuous woman, straight; polite expression, prostitute.”

Meloni further condemned her leftwing opponents, saying that over many years they had admonished us on gender equality” only to then disparage a female leader by “referring to her as a prostitute”.

Landini’s Clarification

Reacting to the Prime Minister’s comments, Landini contended that there were “no sexist insults” against Meloni and that he had used “an underling to Trump”.

Through an official comment, he clarified: “During a brief interview, which anyone can easily rewatch, to prevent misinterpretation or exploitation of the term, I immediately clarified the sense of my words – that Meloni was following Trump’s lead, she was at Trump’s court, she acted as Trump’s subordinate.”

Connection with the US President

The Italian leader has long nurtured amicable ties with President Trump. During a speech in Egypt, Trump turned to Meloni – the sole female at the event – and called her “beautiful”. “In the United States, such a remark might be politically fatal,” he said. “Still, I am willing to chance it. May I comment that you are beautiful? Since you are genuinely beautiful.”

The US president later praised Meloni as “an inspiration to all” in concerning the English version of her work, I Am Giorgia: My Roots, My Principles, which features a foreword by Donald Trump Jr..

Earlier Controversies

During the summer, Meloni responded firmly after discovering that doctored photos of her and other well-known Italian females had been shared on a adult site, stating she felt revulsion, and offering “solidarity and support to every woman who have been insulted, offended, and abused”.
